The Zones of Regulation is a systematic, cognitive behavioral approach used to teach self-regulation by categorizing all the different ways we feel and states of alertness into four concrete colored zones.
The zones are:
-The Blue Zone: low energy, sad, tired
-The Green Zone: neutral, calm, ready to learn
-The Yellow Zone: heightened energy, frustrated, silly
-The Red Zone: high energy, angry, out of control
The curriculum teaches individuals to identify which zone they are in, and how to use tools to move to a more regulated state.
